A 19-year-old man named Ryder Corral is currently in custody after he was arrested on Sunday for vandalizing a community memorial set up for the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk near the headquarters of Turning Point USA in Phoenix. According to ABC15, the incident occurred around 9:50 a.m. near 48th Street and Beverly Road, an area that had seen an influx of visitors in recent days following Kirk's assassination.
Witnesses observed Corral trespassing onto private property and proceeding to quickly destroy items at the memorial, which included flowers and vases laid down by those mourning Kirk's death, as per NewsNation. Local officers were apparently able to promptly respond as they were already present to help manage traffic related to the outpouring of visitors. Before police could intervene, witnesses at the scene detained Corral. No serious injuries were reported as a result of the altercation.
Details from a NewsNation report added that the memorial destruction by Corral was captured on video, showing him forcefully kicking over memorial items and then being restrained by another person until police arrived. This incident occurred during a period of heightened security and community attention, coinciding with various events honoring Kirk's legacy, including a vigil held in Washington, D.C.
The man suspected of assassinating Kirk, identified as Tyler Robinson, was arrested at Utah Valley University just over a day after the shooting. Both Corral and Robinson were seen sporting black T-shirts with an American flag and eagle logo, although no connection between the two has been established. Following his arrest, Corral is now facing multiple charges, including criminal damage, trespassing, and disorderly conduct, according to NewsNation.
