Gunfire disrupted the quiet of Hills Ave. SW in Atlanta last Saturday, leaving a 60-year-old man wounded after what appeared to be a drug deal gone awry. According to a statement from the Atlanta Police Department, officers from Zone 5 responded to the scene at approximately 9:41 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
On arrival, police found the victim with a gunshot wound, but he was conscious and able to speak with first responders before being transported to a local hospital. The APD statement notes that the preliminary investigation suggests a verbal altercation over a drug transaction escalated into violence, though the suspect remains unidentified.
The Atlanta Police Department's Aggravated Assault Unit has taken charge of the investigation to better understand the events leading up to the shooting.
