8-Year-Old Girl Fatally Injured in Dunwoody Crash, Suspect Arrested for Homicide by Vehicle and DUI

Tragedy struck on Peachtree Industrial Blvd as a motor vehicle crash claimed the life of an 8-year-old girl. The collision, occurring in front of the LaCota Apartments, involved a Toyota Tacoma and a Honda Civic. The Dunwoody Police Department reported that the Honda, pulling out of the apartment complex onto the road, was hit from behind by the Toyota, as mentioned on the City's website.

In a sad turn of events, the young girl who was transported to the Children's Hospital of Atlanta succumbed to her injuries. The incident took a darker turn when the driver of the Toyota attempted to quickly flee the scene on foot, only to be detained by responding Doraville officers.

Authorities have arrested Jose Alejandro Cuahuizo-Varela, the driver of the Tacoma, who faces several charges, including Homicide by Vehicle and DUI. City of Dunwoody press release indicated that after medical clearance at Northside Hospital, Cuahuizo-Varela was taken into custody at DeKalb County Jail.

While the driver of the Honda was also transported to Grady Hospital, the extent of her injuries remains undisclosed. Investigations into the crash continue, and officials urge anyone with information to come forward and provide valuable assistance to the case.
