The owner of an Addison ice cream shop, Steven Weisberg, is facing a wave of legal troubles amidst allegations of secretly filming minors. After charges of child pornography and unauthorized video recording were levied against him last month, news has surfaced of a second hidden camera discovery, this time at Weisberg’s private residence. A civil lawsuit has now been filed against him, involving claims of a "scheme of sexual exploitation" carried out through his business, Flavor Frenzy.
Authorities, who initially kicked off the investigation based on an anonymous tip about a camera disguised as an electrical outlet in the shop's bathroom, have confirmed finding 11 deleted videos, with at least six victims appearing on Weisberg's phone. In their continuous effort to unearth the full extent of these violations, Addison police have been seeking additional information, as reported by NBC Chicago. Weisberg's next court appearance is impending on September 15th, whereas his shop remains closed following a voluntary business license surrender.
The recently filed lawsuit by one of the victims, known as Jane Doe, outlines a series of alleged abuses while she was employed at Flavor Frenzy. The plaintiff's lawyers from Pullano & Siporin, as per their statement to NBC Chicago, are seeking damages for Invasion of Privacy, Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, and violations of the Illinois Gender Violence Act, each to the tune of at least $50,000. Jane Doe, now 19, was also reportedly filmed at Weisberg's home under the guise of a shower invitation post a pickleball game.
During a CBS News Chicago interview, attorney Richard Pullano described the plaintiff's emotional state, noting, "She's devastated. Like I said, she is going through intense pain, anger, and sadness. She has sought out medical attention. We have no idea how long these scars and this pain is going to last." Pullano also relayed that police have found more incriminating footage in Weisberg's home. To make matters worse, it appears some employees were prompted to model t-shirts without undergarments, ostensibly to avoid visible bra lines in photos, as prosecutors disclosed.
The distressing revelations about the shop owner's alleged activities continue to rock the suburban community of Addison. With several victims coming forward and ongoing police investigations, the extent of Weisberg's purported transgressions is still to be fully realized.
