Big-hearted Texans are no strangers to community service, and one Anthony's mom's volunteer efforts have come into the spotlight. Elizabeth Weaver, a dedicated volunteer, has been recognized with the Heroes for Children Award by the State Board of Education, an accolade that shines light on individuals making substantial contributions to public education. Weaver's commitment has been funneled into Anthony Independent School District (AISD), where she's coached University Interscholastic League (UIL) events and even became certified to conduct health checks, assisting district nurses.
Her array of contributions doesn’t stop there, in a social media post lauded by AISD, we see a list of her initiatives: from event setup, to ticket-selling, chaperoning and handling day-to-day office tasks, she truly exemplifies what it means to serve, Weaver was chosen to represent District 1, a vast area that encompasses far West Texas to suburban San Antonio and parts of the Texas-Mexico border, making the honor not just a personal triumph but a point of pride for the community.
The district made it known that SBOE Member Gustavo Reveles was instrumental in Weaver's nomination, and his personal role in presenting the award to her at the recognition ceremony on Sept. 12 deepens the commendation's significance. According to a post by Anthony Independent School District, "Anthony ISD extends its gratitude to SBOE Member Gustavo Reveles for encouraging Weaver’s nomination and for personally presenting the award during the recognition ceremony in Austin on Sept. 12!"
