
A disturbance involving a firearm at a business led to an officer-involved shooting yesterday at 2425 E. 38th Street. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department North District officers were dispatched after a report of an armed individual threatening employees.
According to IMPD News Facebook page, officers arrived at about 6:23 p.m. and encountered a 34-year-old male suspect inside. An employee confirmed the suspect had threatened to kill her and had a gun. A confrontation occurred inside the business, resulting in the discharge of a firearm, but no one was struck.
The suspect attempted to flee and was pursued by officers into a nearby alley. He was apprehended safely near 39th Street and Tacoma Avenue. During the incident, at least one uninvolved vehicle was hit by gunfire, but no bystanders were injured.
The officers involved had their body-worn cameras activated. As standard procedure, the officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on administrative leave. IMPD’s Critical Incident Response Team is conducting a criminal investigation, and IMPD Internal Affairs is conducting a separate administrative investigation. The civilian-majority Use of Force Review Board will hold a hearing after the criminal investigation concludes.
