A tragic incident on Henderson Lake in St. Martin Parish is currently under investigation by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division, following the recovery of a man's body earlier this month. The incident involved a boating mishap that resulted in the death of Scottey R. Broussard, 47, from Arnaudville, as confirmed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries press release.
Reports indicate that Broussard launched his homemade skiff from Cypress Cove Landing around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The situation turned critical when another boater discovered his unmanned 21-foot vessel a mere few hundred yards from the landing at approximately 8:15 p.m. The enforcement agents were called to quickly respond to the scene in an effort to locate Broussard as soon as possible, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Broussard's body was found in the water near his skiff around 12:15 a.m. The St. Martin Parish Coroner's Office is now working to determine the cause of death. It's still unclear how he ended up in the water, but he was not wearing a life jacket when found, as reported by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
