Authorities are currently piecing together the events of an officer-involved shooting that unfolded on the night of September 1 in East Dyer County, Tennessee. This situation escalated from the theft of a vehicle reportedly containing multiple weapons, leading to a pursuit and eventual shooting involving deputies from the Dyer County Sheriff's Office.
The initiation of the chase began shortly after an officer from the Newbern police spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the reportedly stolen car. According to an announcement by the Sheriff's Office, the suspect failed to properly stop when officers attempted to pull the vehicle over. The deputies managed to disable the vehicle, at which point the suspect is alleged to have produced a rifle. Two deputies responded by discharging their firearms at approximately 10:34 p.m., resulting in injuries to the 44-year-old male suspect.
