A tragic incident on the Louisiana Highway 182 overpass near Yokley Road, resulted in the death of a pedestrian identified as Kenneth Levine of Baldwin. According to the Louisiana State Police Troop I report, Levine was hit by a vehicle last Saturday. Despite the efforts to save his life, Levine succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Levine, 60, was hit while wearing dark clothing, which might have reduced his visibility on the road. The vehicle that struck him was A 2014 Chrysler 200, driven by an individual who, while not suspected of impairment, provided a voluntary breath sample which confirmed no alcohol presence. The investigation into this accident is still ongoing, as confirmed by the Louisiana State Police Troop I.
The driver involved in the crash was uninjured and reportedly was using the vehicle's safety restraints properly at the time of the incident. Such unfortunate occurrences highlight the critical need for adherence to pedestrian safety guidelines. "Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas," notes the Louisiana State Police Troop I advice. It is also recommended that pedestrians always walk facing traffic and utilize designated areas for crossing, thus improving their chances against unexpected vehicular encounters.
