
A Belleville woman has been charged with first-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of a man in his East St. Louis residence. KSDK reports that yesterday, officials charged 38-year-old Michelle Schultz in the killing of 67-year-old Van T. Perry. The incident came to light last Friday, when East St. Louis officers were dispatched to Perry's residence on Church Lane.
Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers discovered Perry with multiple stab wounds. He was later pronounced dead. Schultz, a resident of Belleville, Illinois, was identified as the suspect during a joint investigation by local authorities and the Illinois State Police, Riverbender.com adds. Illinois State Police got involved at the request of the East St. Louis Police Department to aid with the homicide probe. No other information about the circumstances of the stabbing, was released.
Charges were filed after the case was presented to St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric, according to Riverbender.com. As the legal proceedings take their course, Michelle Schultz remains in custody.
