The City of Bloomington Economic and Sustainable Development Department is inviting residents to take part in the “Sustainability Spooktacular” this October. The event series includes hands-on activities and educational opportunities to promote environmental awareness and action, according to the City of Bloomington announcement.

Residents can participate through the Zero In Bloomington initiative, a digital platform designed to help reduce carbon footprints. Activities include invasive species removal, orchard cultivation, cooking workshops, neighborhood tree planting, and more. Participants who log climate-friendly actions on the platform during October will be entered into a raffle.

Events include the Rail Trail Weed Wrangle, volunteering at the Community Orchard, the Whole Plant Cooking Workshop, and tree planting on the West Side led by CanopyBloomington. The month concludes with a Block Party at Butler Park featuring food trucks and live music.

Zero In Bloomington offers over 100 environmentally friendly actions, a forum for sharing experiences, and supports the city’s goals of reducing emissions by 25 percent from 2018 levels by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in the 2021 Climate Action Plan.

Residents can sign up by creating an account on Zero In Bloomington by Oct. 1 and registering for events. Space may be limited.
