The City of Boca Raton is charting a new course with the appointment of Mark Sohaney as its new City Manager. Sohaney, a seasoned leader with more than three decades of naval experience, is set to take the helm of City operations. He will be focusing on enhancing communication, transparency, and community engagement, a move that has been well-received by local residents ready for a fresh perspective in city management.
On the heels of George Brown's transition to the role of Manager Emeritus, Sohaney will officially assume his new position on the coming Monday. With 37 years under his belt in military leadership, Sohaney's resume boasts of significant roles such as being the CEO of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and Naval Air Station Key West, positions that entailed managing large infrastructure projects. According to a recent news release, Sohaney's extensive background in naval leadership is expected to have a positive influence on his management of the city's diverse operations.
Sohaney's appointment was warmly welcomed by Boca Raton citizens, who look forward to benefiting from his emphasis on direct communication and a transparent governance style. Having been selected by the City Council in August 2025 to fill the shoes of George Brown, expectations are high for the incoming City Manager.
Sohaney prepares to oversee all City operations starting this week. With his appointment, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to fostering an environment that values engagement and accountability to the public, as noted by a Facebook announcement.
