A body discovered Monday afternoon on Camelback Mountain has prompted a death investigation. Phoenix firefighters found the remains in a steep gully off the Echo Canyon Trail, initially believing the man may have fallen, as reported by AZFamily.
Although the incident occurred yesterday, recovery was delayed until Tuesday because of steep terrain and nightfall. Rescuers prepared for a helicopter extraction at first light, while detectives secured the site, as per AZFamily. Police did not close any roads, and the trail remained open to hikers.
While the identity of the deceased has not been publicly disclosed by the authorities, a missing person flyer for Harald Schindler, 63, seen last on September 2, was present at the Echo Canyon Trail entrance. His rental car was previously found abandoned in the parking lot, suggesting a potential link between the two cases, as shared by FOX 10 Phoenix. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Police Department maintains that the investigation is very much active, withholding further information about the cause of death or additional identification pending notification of the next of kin.
