Tragedy struck Brooklyn yesterday afternoon when a pair of 20-year-old twins were shot in the Cypress Hills neighborhood, an incident that left one brother dead and the other hospitalized. According to ABC7NY, the shooting occurred around 2:40 p.m. near the corner of Euclid Avenue and Sutter Avenue, a crossroads of violence that has left the community reeling.
Upon arriving at the chaotic scene, officers discovered the young men with severe injuries—the deceased brother, Darius Coles, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, while his sibling sustained a wound to the leg and a graze wound to his head. The surviving twin was transferred to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. The assailant, described by the police as a male suspect, reportedly fled the area on a bicycle.
The impact of the shooting extends beyond the immediate victims; it represents a rupture in the fabric of a Brooklyn community all too familiar with such senseless violence. NY Daily News reports that Coles was shot around the corner from his home, merely three blocks from where his life was prematurely extinguished.
As of now, details surrounding the motive and circumstances of the shooting remain scarce, and authorities continue their investigation. No immediate arrests have been made in connection with the case.
