With hurricane season in full swing, Broward County's Animal Care is gearing up to host a one-day Small Animal Emergency and Disaster Sheltering - Awareness Level 1 Training, in partnership with the Florida State Animal Response Coalition (FL SARC). The event, scheduled for Saturday, September 20, is set to fortify the community's ability to safeguard their pets during natural calamities. Priced at $35 per attendee, the session runs from 9 AM to 5 PM at the agency's Fort Lauderdale headquarters. Aspiring participants are encouraged to register online.
"Broward County is no stranger to extreme weather events," Doug Brightwell, Broward County Animal Care Director, asserted in comments obtained by the county's official press release. The initiative is designed to equip locals with the necessary skills to protect their animals and families when faced with disaster. With comprehensive training in animal rescue, care, and emergency shelter operations, the program aims to elevate the community's preparedness for hurricanes, floods, fires and other emergencies.
Understanding the significance of readiness, Jeremy Hillengas, Program Manager of the Florida State Animal Response Coalition, reinforced the initiative's value. "Every hurricane season reminds us how important it is to be ready - not only for ourselves, but for our pets. By training volunteers today, we're building a stronger, safer community for tomorrow," Hillengas conveyed, according to the press release.
For community members invested in the safety of their four-legged friends, this training provides a proactive avenue to contribute positively in times of upheaval.
