Delving once again into a decades-old mystery, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office is soliciting the public's help in solving the James Curre homicide case. On July 14, 1990, Curre was discovered dead on his driveway in the community of Copperopolis, a grisly scene hinting at violence endured in the quiet of night. The Sheriff's Office, through a social media post, has reiterated the circumstances of the case: Curre was attacked by a knife-wielding suspect, or possibly more than one, on the night of July 13, 1990.
Investigators at the time had made a discovery within the residence that possibly tinged the crime scene with shades of the illicit – five kilograms of cocaine. While evidence collected seemingly pointed to a drug-related altercation, the true motives and the identity of the assailant(s) remain shrouded, prompting the reopening of the case. According to previous reporting by Hoodline, the Sheriff’s Office persists in their quest for leads that may finally thread together the loose ends left behind.
To fuel such efforts, the Sheriff's Office has established an Anonymous Tip Line at 209-754-6030, encouraging those who might hold even a fragment of information to step forward.
