For those who rely on I-210 Westbound for their morning commute, you'll want to plan for a bit of a detour this coming Monday. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a lane closure that will surely impact traffic in Calcasieu Parish. From 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM on September 29, the left lane from Exit 3 to Mile Marker 1 will be shut down. The closure, according to the DOTD, is necessary for the installation of electrical equipment that'll illuminate the new bridge.
While inconvenience is certain, safety is the department's top priority. In an announcement made on September 24, DOTD reminded residents to be vigilant, stating, "DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment." The reminder extends beyond just motorists. If you're walking or biking in the area, be particularly careful, as active construction zones can be fraught with hazards.
