Marking the commencement of National Fire Prevention Week, Catawba County Firefighters are slated to host a special event at the local Home Depot on U.S. 70, on October 5 from 1-3 p.m. This interactive exhibit promises a mix of fun and education, aimed at spreading awareness on fire safety in an engaging manner. According to the City of Hickory's recent announcement, families can expect a range of activities provided by various participating fire departments.
Fire apparatus and crews from around the county, including Catawba, Conover, Cooksville, and several other local fire agencies, will offer firsthand experiences of their work and readiness. Showcased in the day's events, Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue plans to introduce their inflatable fire safety house, designed for families to walk through and identify potential dangers in a home setting. Expected to attend, Pluggie, the talking fire hydrant, also makes its return for captivating the younger audiences.
Focused on imparting valuable lessons to kids, the Catawba Fire Department is setting up a Junior Agility Challenge, which mimics an obstacle course for children to get a glimpse into a firefighter's role. In addition, Cooksville Fire Department provides a technological angle with their immersive drone demonstrations and a nostalgic touch with their replica horse and wagon setup, inviting families to capture moments with antique fire apparatus.
This community-centered occasion is not just about fun and games. With their car seat safety display, Safe Kids Catawba County is set to engage parents on child safety in vehicles. Firefighters will also be available to field questions from the public, distributing free literature on fire prevention, alongside treats for the children.
