Witnesses at the scene described seeing Sweeney floating face down in the water. Without hesitation, they jumped in to bring him to shore. Despite their efforts, Sweeney was not wearing a life jacket and was unresponsive. According to FOX 2 Detroit, he was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
