An incident occurred yesterday at Pleasant Lake in West Bloomfield, where a 62-year-old man identified as Steven J. Sweeney drowned. ClickOnDetroit reports that the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, alongside the West Bloomfield Fire Department, were called to the scene around 6:00 p.m. after a drowning was reported. Upon arrival, they discovered bystanders had already pulled the unresponsive man from the water, who was later declared deceased at a local hospital.
Witnesses at the scene described seeing Sweeney floating face down in the water. Without hesitation, they jumped in to bring him to shore. Despite their efforts, Sweeney was not wearing a life jacket and was unresponsive. According to FOX 2 Detroit, he was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. ClickOnDetroit confirm that the search and rescue team are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the drowning.
