According to Local10, Kirk, a conservative icon known for his college campus tours, was fatally shot at an event at Utah Valley University yesterday. Isabelle Garcia, a board member of Turning Point USA at FIU, shared her devastation over Kirk's death, "He had a big influence on my life personally, and who I am today," despite Kirk not having visited the FIU chapter.
Following the incident, Utah Valley University announced a suspension of all activities and administrative operations while the investigation continues. According to an update from NBC News, the university has closed its doors until Monday, with assurances that employees will still receive their regular pay during this time. Students have been advised that coursework, assignment deadlines, and exams will be delayed to accommodate the disruption caused by the shooting.
The manhunt for the shooter is still underway as local law enforcement works with the evidence on hand.
