
At the end of August, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents arrested William Thomas, 46, of Coushatta at the Grand Bayou Reservoir in Red River Parish. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ official website, Thomas was taken into custody for fishing without a license and for possessing marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.
Senior Agent Austin Ashley, Senior Agent Tracen Francis, and Lt. Ryan Brasher were the officers involved. The agents detected a strong odor of marijuana when they approached Thomas, leading to a search that uncovered the illegal substances while he was fishing from the bank.
Thomas faces multiple charges. Possession of methamphetamine carries up to a $5,000 fine and a possible two-year jail term. Possession of drug paraphernalia carries up to a $300 fine and up to 15 days in jail. Possession of marijuana carries up to a $100 fine, and fishing without a license carries up to a $50 fine.
Thomas was booked into the Red River Parish Correctional Center following his arrest.
