
A robbery attempt turned deadly in Dania Beach yesterday evening when two suspects engaging in theft were met with lethal retaliation. The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported to NBC Miami that deputies, responding to a 6:52 p.m. call, discovered one suspect shot near the 600 block of Stirling Road. The injured suspect had earlier robbed a bystander and a business in the vicinity of the 800 block, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His current condition remains undisclosed.
The situation escalated when the second suspect attempted to fatally strike the aforementioned bystander with their vehicle. This prompted the bystander to defend and to shoot at the attacker. According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the vehicle with the wounded driver was located several blocks away near the 100 block of Phippen Waiters. The driver, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, did not survive.
Further details emerged from a Local 10 News interview with an eyewitness. The witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the terrifying scene, saying, "My mom’s friend came out and shot them both, one on the sidewalk right where the cash register is." The attempted robbery occurred at a 7-Eleven store on Sterling Road and Southwest 11th Avenue. The suspects, one of whom was observed clutching the cash register, were allegedly taken down by a civilian who witnessed the heist.
After the shooting, local authorities discovered the first suspect with the stolen cash register in a parking lot, where "change spilling all over the pavement." As the second suspect sped away, the witness was again forced to take action and fire multiple shots, as reported by Local 10 News. This resulted in the driver being gravely injured and later succumbing to his injuries in a hospital. The driver's side door of the car was found riddled with bullet holes, and bloody garments were present on the ground near the vehicle, local deputies detailed.
The identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed as the Broward Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the matter. Officials have not released further statements regarding potential charges or the motivation behind the robbery and subsequent events.
