
A 48-year-old man, Christopher Overman, faces multiple charges after a boating incident on the Tennessee River that resulted in the death of a teenager, Austin Perry. Reported by WSMV, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announced the indictment, which was handed down by a Decatur County grand jury.
The fatal incident took place between the late hours of April 19 and early April 20, near Eagles Nest Lane and the Bath Springs area. Overman was apprehended on Tuesday, with his arrest following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young adult's death. According to WKRN, his bond has been set at $250,000.
In detail, Overman faces charges including vehicular homicide by recklessness, vehicular homicide driver intoxication, boating under the influence (his second offense), implied consent boating enhancement, and reckless boating with injury, reported by WBBJTV.
Overman, who remains in custody at the Decatur County jail, is expected to make his initial court appearance on September 30. The gravity of the situation is further compounded by a charge of purchasing alcoholic beverages for a child, indicating a violation of trust and legal duty. The ongoing investigation is carefully monitored, and further inquiries have been directed to the Office of the District Attorney General for the 24th Judicial District.
