Delray Beach residents who are accustomed to the current parking fees in the city's garages and lots should brace themselves for a change come October 1. WPBF reports that these rates are set to increase as part of a parking plan aimed at boosting turnover and easing access to local businesses. The plan also seeks to ensure parking availability in high-demand areas.
The upcoming adjustments include a new $3 per hour charge for city parking lots with a 4-hour limit, as well as $1.50 per hour, round-the-clock fees for city garages looking to tackle the issue of parking availability, the plan also introduces a reduced-rate parking permit for downtown workers which at $10 a month, allows eligible workers to park in any city-owned location, excluding the premium spots at Atlantic and A1A, the specifics of these policy changes were provided by WPBF,
Key areas affected by the rate hike include the Old School Square Garage, Robert Federspiel Garage, and the iPic Garage among others, with select metered side streets also seeing an increase to $3 per hour and a new 3-hour parking limit, according to the city's Instagram post. While participants in the Delray Beach community are looking at a new parking landscape, some solace can be found in unchanged rates along Atlantic Avenue and A1A alongside an annual downtown parking permit available to residents for $12 per year.
To secure these new permits, employees must submit documentation such as "a valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and proof of employment, such as a business tax receipt, pay stub, etc." as detailed by WPBF, the permits which must be renewed monthly offer businesses the opportunity to compile a list of eligible employees and cover the cost of their parking, creating a streamlined process potentially conducive to building stronger employer-employee relations at a time when the urban canvas of Delray Beach is shifting both in hue and texture.
