In the walls of Morgan County Correctional Complex, a ceremony of practical hope unfolded on September 16, as dozens of inmates achieved a milestone that could pivot their narratives towards a more promising chapter. According to the official release from the Tennessee Department of Correction, forty-three inmates were awarded High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) Diplomas, designed to assist them in obtaining a job upon release and to continue further education.
Witnessed by faculty, prison staff, and fellow inmates, this accomplishment allows them to fully take more vocational classes and pursue post-secondary degree programs offered by partnering colleges and universities. "Our education staff here at Morgan County work really hard to help as many inmates as they can earn that diploma, so that they can keep going in their educational journey," Associate Warden of Treatment Jordan Clark was quoted in the Tennessee Department of Correction release.
Furthering the opportunities for rehabilitation and societal reintegration, an additional twenty-four inmates at the complex earned Career and Technical Education Certificates.
