According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Madrigal-Birrueta, an undocumented Mexican national, along with co-conspirators, orchestrated the murders during a dispute in drug trafficking, entailing the fatal shooting of the couple and the death of their unborn child.
The investigation, spearheaded by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), used radar, cadaver dogs, and forensic testing to discover the remains in September 2023 after Madrigal-Birrueta directed the burial of the victims at a Yakima ranch, this case also has Ricardo Orizaba-Zendejas facing charges, he played a significant role as an accessory and co-conspirator and is set for trial in October.
