Calling all Durham residents interested in the local arts scene: mark your calendars for next Thursday, when the city will host an Arts Town Hall to discuss the cultural flavor of the area. The in-person session, part of the broader Durham Cultural Roadmap initiative, is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Holton Career & Resource Center.
Here's the lowdown — doors swing open at the civil hour of 5:30 p.m.. The venue located at 401 N Driver St, has partnered with MJR Partners, the Creative Engagement Team, and the Cultural Roadmap Planning Group to roll out the welcome mat for this event.
While addressing the city's plan, Durham officials stated, "This planning effort will guide how arts, culture, and creativity can thrive across Durham in the years ahead." Those not able to arrive by car will find the Holton Career & Resource Center is just a short walk from bus stop #6345. And talk about timing, all GoDurham buses are fare-free through June 2026 — talk about commuter bliss.

The Durham Cultural Roadmap, as explained by city officials, is no small-time plan. It aims to be the compass that guides future arts and cultural programming and investment, a journey taken with the community's hand firmly on the tiller. After gathering input wide and far across the community, the comprehensive plan will be presented to the people, the Durham Board of County Commissioners, and the Durham City Council in spring 2026. Meanwhile, The City of Durham’s Cultural and Public Art Program busies itself by managing the City’s public art collection and dishing out opportunities for local artists and residents alike to engage in arts programming.
