The Planning Department is reaching out to East Kaua‘i residents, urging them to join in on the next public workshop for the East Kaua‘i Community and Circulation Plan (EKCCP), set for September 16. As part of an ongoing public engagement drive, this workshop seeks to fine-tune long-range planning efforts on key community concerns including land use, transportation, infrastructure, housing, and emphasizes climate hazard resilience and the protection of cultural and historic assets.

“This planning process is about listening and learning together. We encourage all East Kaua‘i residents to be part of the conversation,” stated Planning Director Ka‘āina Hull. The workshop on September 16 will delve into Parks, Recreation, and Economic Development, it's scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital Auditorium, located at 4800 Kawaihau Rd in Kapa‘a. An interactive space will be set up for attendees to provide their feedback, and dinner will be available, as reported by the Planning Department.

This upcoming session is another opportunity for community members to weigh in on the EKCCP, following a series of previous engagements such as a public open house and survey rolled out in summer 2024, and a multi-day design workshop hosted in October 2024. Residents who are unable to make it in person can still participate, as workshop materials will also be made accessible online.

For those needing additional information or details on the upcoming workshop or to arrange support such as an ASL interpreter, alternate format materials, or translation services, are encouraged to reach out promptly to the Planning Division at [email protected] or call 808-241-4050 to ensure there's adequate time to fulfill the request. The same contacts can be used to access this notice in alternate formats such as large print, Braille, or an electronic copy.
