Honolulu gets a mostly sunny Thursday with scattered showers and a high near 88 degrees, but the forecast takes a wetter, windier turn by the weekend. A tropical depression east-southeast of Hawaii could bring increasing rain, stronger winds and rougher surf statewide from late Saturday through Monday.
Warm Thursday Gives Way To Muggy Friday
Thursday’s showers should stay scattered, with a 30% chance of rain and generally light totals below a tenth of an inch. Northeast winds will run from 3 to 10 mph, while Thursday night turns mostly cloudy with a low near 77 and a 50% chance of showers.
Friday will be warmer, reaching about 89 degrees, with heat index values as high as 96. The National Weather Service Honolulu office is calling for another round of scattered showers, a 40% rain chance and east winds of 5 to 10 mph, according to its latest forecast discussion.
Weekend Rain And Wind Build Across Oahu
Winds strengthen Friday night and Saturday, when east-northeast breezes could reach 16 to 20 mph with gusts up to 28 mph. Saturday will remain partly sunny with scattered showers, but Sunday looks considerably unsettled: rain showers are likely, the chance of rain rises to 70%, and gusts could reach 35 mph.
The tropical system is expected to increase precipitation first on the east side of the state Saturday night into Sunday, with rain potentially spreading west Sunday night into Monday. Honolulu’s Monday forecast calls for cloudy skies, an 80% chance of showers and east-northeast gusts up to 35 mph, while Tuesday still carries a 70% chance of showers.
Forecast Details Could Still Shift
No watches, warnings or advisories are currently in effect for the Honolulu forecast area. However, the storm’s track and intensity remain uncertain, and weather impacts such as rain, wind and surf can extend well away from the center, so residents should keep checking updated forecasts before making weekend outdoor plans.
