Residents of the 5400 block of Almont Avenue in unincorporated El Paso County may hopefully experience a reprieve from criminal activity following a recent enforcement operation by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. On September 7, deputies from the Office conducted surveillance in an area known for narcotics distribution, resulting in multiple arrests and citations. Details of the operation were released in a statement by the Sheriff's Office earlier this week.

A traffic stop led to the apprehension of two men and involved an adult female. Upon stopping a gold Honda Pilot that had departed from a residence under surveillance, deputies spotted drug paraphernalia in clear view. The three individuals in the vehicle were Matthias Black, age 31, Brian Martinez, age 54, and an unidentified adult female. While Black received a citation to then be released for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Martinez was not as fortunate. He allegedly attempted to mislead authorities by providing a false name, resulting in an additional charge of Obstruction, and was found to be wanted on two outstanding felony warrants according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Martinez now faces charges related to Vehicular Eluding and Domestic Violence–Stalking, and was taken to the El Paso County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. According to the Sheriff's Office statement, the enforcement operation is part of an ongoing commitment "to combat criminal activity and enhance public safety" in the region.

The uncharged female occupant was released without charges. This latest operation adds to a series of actions taken by the Sheriff’s Office to actively discourage and address crime in the Pikes Peak region, maintaining a high visibility presence in areas known for illicit activities. The El Paso Sheriff's Office has vowed to continue to diligently work to ensure safety and peace of mind for the residents of the community.
