The murder mystery that has been looming over the 4800 block of Dyer Street since June has reached a pivotal point this week, as El Paso police announced the arrest of a suspect in Alabama. Terrence Mathews was apprehended and extradited to Texas, facing a murder charge for the slaying of Damian Arce, a 31-year-old man found shot outside a local bar.
According to the El Paso Police Department, Arce was discovered with a gunshot wound in the early hours of June 1st by officers on a routine bar check at the Chit Chat Bar. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he later died from his injuries. The incident seemed to have stemmed from an altercation with Mathews, for reasons not yet disclosed, before the shot was fired, and the suspect fled.
The Crimes Against Persons investigators took over the case, working diligently to untangle the events that led to Arce's death. Their efforts eventually pointed them toward Mathews, culminating in his arrest in Alabama on the El Paso Police Department's murder warrant. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility yesterday, nearly four months after the fatal encounter.
