In a heartwarming display of community partnership and support for the underserved, Douglass Elementary School students kicked off the new school year on a high note, each receiving a brand-new pair of shoes. The initiative, a collaboration between Operation Warm, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls, reached the hands of delighted children on September 10, aiming to provide more than just footwear but also a boost to self-esteem and confidence.

Selected back in March for the Operation Warm partnership, Douglass Elementary had the good fortune of being picked in August, with Principal Michelle Corral expressing her gratitude in a statement obtained by El Paso ISD, saying, "I’m in awe in the way Operation Warm has everything so organized, how they reach out to our communities, their partnership, and I think most importantly for me is that they’re community partners who believe in our students, and they’re partners with us and most importantly, they’re treating our students with dignity, and helping them go out into the world with confidence." Corral's joy, echoed amid the halls of the school, marks a testament to the profound impact of such charitable actions on the lives of children.

Operation Warm has been a beacon of hope since 1998, aiming to fulfill the needs of children in dire situations through essential items like coats and shoes, ensuring they are able to meet everyday challenges with their best foot forward. It focuses particularly on Title I schools, Head Start programs, homeless shelters, and organizations that serve children in urgent need.

Principal Corral further highlighted the significance of the event, "This is a true testimony to the work we do in the district," she told the El Paso ISD. "I represent Douglass, but I also represent El Paso ISD, so I think that EPISD will be proud of this work and how we’re servicing 460 students today." The gesture stands not only as an act of kindness but also as a contribution to the wider educational community, underscoring the collaborative spirit that benefits every student involved.
