El Paso is heading into a near-100-degree Monday, with a high near 99°F and a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms. The latest early-morning observation at El Paso International Airport showed clear skies and temperatures around 79°F, with winds near 33 mph from the southeast. Winds are expected to ease later outside of any storm activity.
Storm Chances Arrive After 2 p.m.
A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms begins after 2 p.m. Monday, with isolated storms possible across the lowlands and better odds over higher terrain and western areas. The National Weather Service office serving El Paso and Santa Teresa says storms could continue into the evening before fading before 11 p.m. Lightning, sudden gusts and brief heavy rain remain possible even though most of the city should stay dry.
Heat Lingers Through The Weekend
Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 97°F, followed by highs near 98°F Wednesday, 99°F Thursday, and 98°F Friday. The weekend stays mostly sunny, with temperatures near 98°F Saturday and 97°F Sunday. Overnight lows will remain in the mid- to upper 70s, offering only limited relief after sunset.
Dryer Midweek, More Moisture Later
Storm chances drop sharply Tuesday and Wednesday, when lowland areas are expected to remain mostly dry, and activity is concentrated in the mountains. A few mountain storms may return Thursday and Friday, while broader rain chances are expected to increase again next weekend, especially west of the Rio Grande. No watches or warnings are posted for the El Paso area in the latest forecast package.
Plan For Sun And Very Dry Air
Afternoon humidity could fall as low as 14% to 25% across the lowlands, making water, shade and sun protection especially important. Anyone outdoors on Monday should keep an eye on the sky and move indoors if thunder approaches, even if rain is not falling nearby.
