
An elderly couple lost their lives in a traffic accident that occurred on Friday afternoon at a west suburban intersection in Geneva. According to NBC Chicago, the victims involved were an 85-year-old man and his 88-year-old wife. The pair were navigating a turn at the time of the incident, which took place around 1:40 p.m. near Bricher Road and Fisher Drive.
Details provided by ABC7 Chicago indicate that the couple's 2005 Toyota Corolla was attempting, to turn onto Bricher Road when it was struck by an eastbound 2020 BMW X3 SUV. The force of the collision sent the BMW off the road and into a wooded area, where it subsequently caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished by responding firefighters.
Geneva Police stated that the names of the deceased were not immediately released as authorities were in the process of notifying next of kin. The younger driver, an 18-year-old man, was behind the wheel of the BMW and had three passengers with him, ranging in age from 18 to 19. Paramedics cleared the driver and two passengers at the scene, while one passenger required transport to a local hospital for further evaluation. As of Friday evening, no charges had been filed in connection with the crash.
The scene of the tragic event, Bricher Road, was closed down for several hours while the Geneva police conducted their investigation, with assistance from the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Kane County Coroner's Office. The road was reopened to traffic by 7:40 p.m. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and, more information has yet to be provided by the authorities.
