The El Paso Community College (EPCC) Cross Country teams showed impressive performances at the recent New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) XC Jam, with the Tejanas taking top honors and the men's team nailing a close second. This meet, held in Las Vegas, New Mexico, on September 26, saw EPCC's women's side tie with the hosts but claimed first place thanks to their sixth runner's edge as detailed by EPCC News.
Highlighting the women's achievements, EPCC freshman Nhamoinesu “Toddy" Mabvuka led her team with a 5K time of 18:38, ensuring third place overall. Faith Rotich and Antonia Ronoh, both newcomers, closely followed Mabvuka, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Held at the Gene Torres Golf Course, the meet saw the EPCC men finishing with 30 points, slightly behind NMHU's 33, with top runner Julian Guerra finishing his 7K race in fourth place, as reported by EPCC News.
The competition wasn't lightweight, featuring contenders from Oklahoma Panhandle State, Northern New Mexico, Navajo Tech, and Diné College. Last season, the EPCC teams made a significant impact by winning the Region V Cross Country Championship on the men's side and advancing to the NJCAA National Championships, where the men and women finished fifth and seventh, respectively, as was described in the article.
