Drivers on SR 1 are being advised to allow extra travel time today. Traffic delays are expected, so plan accordingly before hitting the road. According to a report from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, released on their official website, routine bridge inspections are going to temporarily throw a wrench into the usual flow of traffic. Two I-40 bridges over SR 1 (US 70) in Crab Orchard are set to be checked out by TDOT's bridge inspection team today, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., weather permitting.
During these inspections, flaggers will be out there trying to keep things moving, but they'll have to reduce traffic down to a single lane on SR 1, stretching from Cox Valley Road to Main Street. And while those up on I-40 aren't expected to feel the sting, anyone coursing through SR 1 should brace themselves to possibly have to stop and slow down. The TDOT announcement warns drivers to use caution when traveling through the area and to expect delays.
TDOT urges drivers to check travel conditions before heading out and to avoid distractions like texting or calling while driving. Motorists should also move over for road workers and emergency vehicles, as required by Tennessee’s Move Over Law, with violations carrying fines up to $500 or 30 days in jail. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes ahead of today’s bridge inspections to help reduce delays.
