A house fire in Colerain Township has resulted in the death of a family dog and has displaced two residents. The fire, which occurred early yesterday morning, required a response from the Colerain Fire Department just after 2 a.m. Flames were seen coming from the roof of a home on Swirlwood Lane, according to WLWT.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported hearing fire alarms and quickly worked to safely evacuate the two people living there, along with one of the family's dogs. However, another dog was tragically found dead inside. According to a statement obtained by FOX19, the cause of the fire is still being investigated, but it is believed to have possibly started on the back porch of the house.
The Colerain Fire Department has estimated the damage to the home to be at least $150,000. In addition to local firefighters, assistance was provided by units from North College Hill, Green Township, Springfield Township, and Forest Park. Following the incident, the Red Cross stepped in to offer temporary housing and other necessities to the affected residents, as reported by WLWT.
The impact of the fire reached beyond the immediate household. Art Hung, a neighbor of the family, reported that the intense heat from the blaze caused the siding on his own house to begin to melt. "They've been great neighbors," Hung told CBS4Local. "We've been here for, like I said, 40 years, and unfortunately, their dog passed away as well, so I really hate to hear that as well."
