Tragedy struck Washington Parish when a pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle on LA 21 at LA 3124. According to a report by Louisiana State Police Troop L, the accident occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, and resulted in the death of 60-year-old Jackson Brown from Bogalusa.
The initial investigation disclosed that Brown was walking south in the right lane, at the same time a 2023 Nissan Sentra was traveling, seemingly on the same trajectory. In an unfortunately timed collision, the front bumper of the Nissan struck Brown. The reasons behind this incident are still to be thoroughly investigated, as reported by the Louisiana State Police Troop L.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Nissan, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, sustained minor injuries and was afterward transported to a local hospital. While impairment has not been ruled out as a contributing factor, official reports state that, "routine toxicology samples will be submitted for analysis." The incident remains under active investigation, as per the Louisiana State Police Troop L.
In light of the accident, troopers have issued a reminder for pedestrians and motorists to always stay vigilant and maintain awareness of their surroundings. They emphasized, "Pedestrians should cross roadways at well-lit intersections and wear reflective clothing when walking near traffic, especially at night." Such safety practices are deemed critical in the effort to reduce preventable tragedies on the roads, as stated by the Louisiana State Police Troop L.
