Yesterday, a single-vehicle crash occurred in the North Riverfront neighborhood, resulting in one man's death and leaving another in critical condition. According to the SLMPD, officers from District 6 were dispatched to the scene around 5 a.m., where they found an overturned car on the railroad tracks near the 100 block of Carrie.
The SLMPD report detailed that two adult males were transported to the hospital following the crash. Running off a gravel service road, the vehicle struck a tree and overturned before coming to a rest on the railroad tracks, a preliminary investigation suggested. While the car was rolling, the rear seat passenger, ejected from the car, did not survive the injuries sustained. The driver, who remained inside the vehicle during the course of the event, is listed in critical condition.
Identifications of those involved are still being confirmed, and further details about what led to the car losing control are yet to be ascertained as the Accident Reconstruction Unit of the SLMPD continues with their investigation. Currently, the Accident Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation to piece together the events that caused the incident.
The SLMPD has not released further information at this time, but updates are expected as the investigation moves forward.
