A tragic turn of events unfolded in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, as a man was fatally stabbed at the Golden West Hotel on 4th Avenue, the San Diego Police Department reported. The incident, which occurred yesterday around 6:58 p.m., led to police officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics rushing to the scene to administer life-saving measures to the victim, but despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The confrontation that escalated into a deadly stabbing began as an argument between the victim and the suspect, Rene Lunar, a 44-year-old Hispanic male, the San Diego Police Department has revealed; however, the dynamics of the conflict are still under scrutiny as investigators piece together the harrowing moments that led to one man losing his life over an exchange of words gone terribly awry the suspect, after committing the act, fled the scene only to turn himself in to police shortly thereafter, being apprehended without further incident on the 1500 block of India Street in San Diego.
The identity of the 38-year-old Black male victim is being kept confidential until his family has been duly informed, a standard practice in such grim circumstances to afford respect and privacy in a time of unspeakable loss. Authorities are actively seeking information and appeal to the public to come forward with any relevant details by contacting the San Diego Police Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293, or by leaving an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
