Early Monday morning on Chicago's South Side, gunfire interrupted a large gathering and sent five people, including a teenager, to the hospital with injuries. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, around 1:05 a.m. near Ellis Park in the 3600 block of S. Cottage Grove, officers were already present at a large gathering when they recognized the sound of gunshots.

The five victims of the shooting included a 17-year-old boy now in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. According to a report from FOX32 Chicago, the young man is receiving care at the University of Chicago Hospital. Joining him were two 33-year-old men, a 36-year-old woman, and a 26-year-old man, all of whom were found by officers with various gunshot wounds but are expected to recover.

Following the shooting, Chicago Police Department officials reported the recovery of four firearms at the scene, and detectives are currently questioning a person of interest linked to the incident.
