
Fontana police responded to a domestic violence call early on August 30 that ended in the arrest of Galo Mejia-Reyes, 53, after a cache of illegal firearms and ammunition was found in his home. According to the SBSD Fontana Sheriff's Department, deputies arrived at the 14800 block of Carmel Street around 1:29 a.m. to attend to a situation involving assault with a firearm.
Upon reaching the scene, deputies found the victim, a female whose identity has been kept confidential, suffering from a serious head injury. Mejia-Reyes, identified as the assailant, was coaxed out of the home and taken into custody, as per the SBSD Fontana Sheriff's Department. Running into the residence armed, deputies established a perimeter and eventually recovered many prohibited weapons following a granted search warrant.
During the search, deputies Brambila and Rapisardi located "multiple assault-style rifles, pistols, large-capacity magazines, a collapsible baton, and a large amount of ammunition," with several of the items being in direct violation of California law. Set at $1,000,000.00, bail for Mejia-Reyes has been confirmed, while the victim received necessary medical care for her injuries, as reported by the SBSD Fontana Sheriff's Department.
