The streets of Fort Lauderdale are about to get a little more tech-savvy, as the city gears up to implement on-street parking sensors along the bustling stretch of Las Olas Boulevard. The move, which falls under the Go FTL parking expansion program, is aimed at streamlining the hunting-for-parking routine that is all too familiar to city drivers.
Starting Monday, October 13 through Friday, October 17, between the hours of 3 a.m. and 11 a.m., Las Olas Boulevard will see sections of its lanes partially closed, as the City installs these much-anticipated sensors. Workers will be pressing eastward, setting up the sensors designed to feed real-time parking availability directly to users of the Go FTL platform. While the construction schedule is set, it's also at the mercy of the unpredictable—susceptible to shifts courtesy of the weather, or other unforeseen conditions, according to the City's announcement.
No full road closures are expected during the installation. Instead, one travel lane will be shut down at a time during active work hours. The City is calling for extra caution from drivers—they should heed posted signs indicating work zones, as areas of construction shift from day to day along this popular corridor. The upgrade is welcomed by those tired of the parking dance, but the installation process demands patience. "We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve parking access along Las Olas Boulevard," a City spokesperson said in a released statement obtained by the city's official website.
