The City of Fort Pierce is casting a wide net across the nation in their quest for a new head of police. This coastal city has placed a public call for candidates who are ready to bring innovative and strategic leadership to its police force. Citing the position as a high-profile role within one of Florida’s vibrant and historic communities, the announcement comes with a set of qualifications that hopefuls must meet to be considered for the position.
"As we search for our next Chief of Police, we’re looking for a leader who not only brings experience and integrity but also a deep commitment to community engagement and public service,” City Manager Richard D. Chess stated in a CBS12 report. To align with these standards, applicants need a minimum of 10 years in progressive law enforcement roles, including at least three at command level, and they must be armed with a bachelor's degree—although a master's is preferred. Additionally, completion of advanced training such as the FBI National Academy or equivalent is required to make the cut.
Renumeration for the role has been outlined by the city and it varies from $128,250 to $212,000, subject to qualifications. An added financial perk for potential candidates is the absence of a state income tax in Florida. In pursuit of attracting a suitable candidate, the city also highlights the competitive benefits that come with the job and emphasizes the requirement for the Chief of Police to take up residency within city limits.
Interested individuals have until September 22 to submit their application for the initial review. Details regarding the application process and the full job description can be found on the official city portal, according to a Facebook post by the City of Fort Pierce.
