Authorities are delving into the details of an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in Locust Grove, GA. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken charge of the inquiry at the behest of the local police force. This tragic event unfolded yesterday and also resulted in the discovery of another deceased individual inside a home that was partially engulfed in flames.

Based on initial reports provided by the GBI, the incident commenced when the 911 center was alerted about the fire around 3:39 a.m. Officers were on site within minutes at the 1700 block of Cadence Street, where they forced their way into the blazing residence. Inside, they were confronted by Stefan Lee, a 29-year-old resident, brandishing a knife who, subsequently lost his life after charging at the officers.

Failing to comply with directives to disarm, Lee was shot after other methods to subdue him did not succeed. "Lee then rushed at the officers with the knife, and officers shot Lee," the GBI statement confirmed. Lee was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement personnel sustained injuries during this confrontation.

Firefighters arrived posthaste and tackled the fire to find Jazzlyn Philips, aged 26, deceased in a bedroom. Philips was also a resident of Locust Grove, GA, the GBI reported. Amidst this chaos, two women and, a small child escaped the home unscathed before officials entered the house.

Both Lee's and Philips’ bodies are sent to the GBI Crime Lab for post-mortem examinations. As the GBI wraps up their investigation, their findings will be handed over to the Henry County District Attorney's Office for a thorough review, to determine the next legal steps in this unfortunate occurrence.
