The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Henry County, where a juvenile was shot by a police officer during a domestic dispute. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident took place last Friday around 8 p.m. when officers were called to a home where a mother had reportedly locked herself in her bedroom, with her son attempting to break in.
Upon their arrival, police encountered the boy, who they claimed to be wielding a knife in an upstairs bedroom. It was during this confrontation that an officer shot the child, subsequently hospitalized for treatment. The current condition of the boy has yet to be disclosed by authorities, and the names of the mother, the juvenile, and the officer involved have been withheld.
According to coverage by 11Alive, no officers sustained injuries during the incident. The GBI's investigation into the shooting is ongoing, after which their findings will be reviewed by the Henry County District Attorney’s Office to determine the next steps and whether any charges should be filed.
Details such as the severity of the child’s injuries or the potential for charges have not been released. The GBI is expected to share the results of their investigation with the public, after the Henry County District Attorney's office has been informed, as detailed by them, who has been working closely with the family involved during the intense scrutiny following the event.
