Yesterday morning in Henry County, a police officer shot a man wielding a shotgun during a domestic incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is actively investigating the situation that unfolded on Brannan Road in McDonough. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that the GBI was summoned to the scene post-shooting, which occurred around 8:45 a.m. Greg Hamilton, 38, failed to comply with officers' commands to drop his weapon, resulting in one officer discharging their firearm and injuring him. FOX 5 Atlanta stated that Hamilton was subsequently hospitalized.
The scene of the incident was closely examined by GBI agents, with particular attention seemingly being paid to a police car and a red truck that appeared to be stuck on an embankment. The GBI has declared to ultimately relay their findings to the Henry County District Attorney's Office upon completion of the investigation. This incident represents the second involving officer gunfire in Henry County over the holiday weekend, as revealed by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Meanwhile, 11Alive News shared additional details, noting that when officers arrived at the residence following a 911 call about a domestic issue, they discovered Hamilton outside his home with the shotgun. Despite repeated instructions to surrender the weapon, Hamilton reportedly chose not to, leading to an officer to decisively shoot him. Following the shooting, Hamilton was rushed to the hospital for the injuries incurred. This officer-involved shooting wasn't isolated; yet another shooting occurred in metro Atlanta this weekend due to a family dispute, as reported by 11Alive.
Information on the incident is still forthcoming, and updates will be provided as more details are obtained and released by authorities.
