The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has announced the appointment of a new Director for its Engineering and Construction Services (ECS) division, effective October 1. David Jones, who is currently the Senior Manager of Engineering and Facility Support within the GDC, will now be responsible for the leadership and oversight of the ECS division, which is in charge of planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the state's correctional facilities' infrastructure, according to the GDC release.
Jones has a long history with the GDC that stretches back to 1999, where he began as a Correctional Officer at Scott State Prison, and his journey within the department has been one of steady progression through the ranks, transitioning to the maintenance department in 2008, and eventually moving up to his current role — his background coupled with developed, hands-on experience mapping the internal machinations of the subject matter he is now tasked to lead. "David has proven himself as a competent leader and an invaluable asset to GDC, and we are confident he will bring that same level of commitment and dedication as he leads ECS," Commissioner Tyrone Oliver told the GDC.
Further cementing his qualifications, Jones holds a degree in Air Conditioning Technology from Central Georgia Technical College, along with a robust series of departmental training that includes Basic Correctional Officer Training, Boot Camp Basic Course, Semi-Auto Transitional Training, Basic Management Training, and Correctional Emergency Response Team Basic Training. His advancements within the department saw him take on roles such as Assistant Regional Engineer, Regional Engineer, and Regional Manager before arriving at his most recent position, where he was responsible for Engineering and Facility Support.
Commissioner Oliver expressed the department's confident outlook in Jones's capabilities to steer the division towards maintaining and enhancing the state's infrastructure with an evident belief in his leadership as reflected in his official statement.
