A 39-year-old man, Adrian Lopez, was apprehended by Gilroy Police last weekend in connection with a series of fires set in a neighborhood on the city's north side. The Gilroy Police Department relayed via social media channels that the arrest occurred shortly after officers responded to a report of a large fire on Travel Park Circle.
According to the Gilroy Police Department's Instagram post, the incident was first reported last Saturday, when a patrol officer was flagged down around 8:30 PM and alerted to the blaze. Officers arriving on the scene worked in tandem with firefighters to quickly bring multiple vegetation fires in the area under control.
While investigating the scene, officers detained Lopez, who was seen nearby and appeared to be under the influence, exhibiting objective signs of intoxication. His footwear matched prints discovered close to the origins of the fires, a detail that contributed to his initial detention. Further questioning and subsequent incriminating statements led to his arrest on arson charges, along with multiple drug-related offenses.
Lopez is currently being held in the Santa Clara County Jail, facing serious allegations for his suspected role in the series of fires.
