This act of bravery occurred around 8 p.m. near the 100 block of South State Street, where the man stepped in to prevent what was alleged to be a theft committed by a 22-year-old assailant.
The resultant confrontation left the man with facial swelling and a cut on the back of his neck, injuries for which he was subsequently treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where police stated he was in stable condition; however, the sequence of events leading to his injuries reminds us of the unforeseen consequences that can follow from stepping into harm's way.
